You should really inform yourself before talking about things you know nothing about. Outside of those three instances (two of them being recent), the controller support is pretty much native and it's excellent. Before that (though that's still the case), I had to reach for my mouse to check moodlets I wasn't familiar with. Right now, the only things I had to reach my mouse for were foraging and adding written notes to the map (but not symbols). The API also makes it much easier for anyone to plug in most controllers without having to use something such as x360ce to emulate a controller type that developers make compatible by default. Nothing is emulated (as in, there are no keyboard keys bound to the controller). The Steam API is used solely to *enable* the controller.
